New York (October 1, 2009) – VH1 Films is thrilled to announce the DVD release of “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” on October 6, 2009. The documentary made its world premiere at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and opened theatrically on April 10, 2009 to both critical and box office success. In addition, VH1 and VH1 Classic will present the television premiere of “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT as part of the Emmy Award-winning VH1 Rock Doc franchise.

The overwhelming response and incredible buzz created by the film paved a stellar comeback for Anvil guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner who started the band 30 years ago. During its theatrical run, “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” garnered extraordinary support from the public with continual updates on social networking websites, Twitter postings and declarations of, “You must see this film!” not only from fans, but from celebrities unconnected to the film such as Dustin Hoffman, Mandy Moore, Keanu Reeves and John Mayer.

The cultural spotlight shines on Anvil once again with an upcoming October 6th appearance on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien,” recent features in Newsweek and Rolling Stone, a guest spot on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, and summer bookings as the opening act for AC/DC’s Black Ice World Tour at the Gillette Stadium and Giants Stadium. Also, the limited edition of their latest album, “This is Thirteen,” hits stores on September 15th, and the band is currently working on its 14th album.

“Anvil! The Story of Anvil” is the directorial debut of screenwriter Sacha Gervasi (“The Terminal”) and was produced by Rebecca Yeldham (“The Kite Runner” and “The Motorcycle Diaries”).  The film follows Kudlow, Reiner and their band, Anvil, which released one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982’s Metal on Metal.  The album influenced an entire musical generation of rock bands, including Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, who all went on to sell millions of records.  Anvil, on the other hand, took a different path—straight to obscurity. The film is both entertaining and touching as it follows their last-ditch quest for the fame and fortune that has been so elusive to them.  “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” is a timeless tale of survival and the unadulterated passion it takes to follow your dream, year after year.

“Anvil! The Story of Anvil” contains appearances by an array of heavy metal icons, including Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, former member of Guns N’ Roses’ Slash, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, and Slayer’s Tom Araya, among others.

VH1 Films will release “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” on DVD on October 6, 2009. The DVD will be available for $24.99 SRP at all major retailers.
