AGAINST ME! IN THE STUDIO WITH BUTCH VIG

BAND IS IN LOS ANGELES RECORDING THE FOLLOW-UP TO 2007’S CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED NEW WAVE

Burbank, CA – Florida punk band Against Me! are currently in the studio in Los Angeles working on their second album for Sire Records with veteran producer Butch Vig. Vig produced the band’s 2007 album New Wave and is known for his work with Green Day, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins, among many others.

Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel began writing the songs that will appear on the album more than a year and a half ago. Pre-production with Vig began in early July and the band, which also includes guitarist James Bowman, bassist Andrew Seward, and new drummer George Rebelo (formerly of Hot Water Music) began tracking in mid-August.

Though it’s early in the process, Gabel offers that lyrically speaking, the album is “all over the place.” He adds, “If anything, I would say one recurring theme is Reflection. ‘White Crosses’ was written during my recent stay in St. Augustine, Florida, and ‘I Was A Teenage Anarchist,’ well, that’s pretty self-explanatory.”

As far as the album’s overall direction, “I feel like we are constantly pushing ourselves to better what we did on the previous record,” Gabel says. “New Wave was a great album to make, and now we want to show another side of the band. The new songs feel like a natural progression of where we should be at. Our intentions, as always, are to deliver the best record we can possible make.”

The decision to work with Vig again was a no-brainer. “He gets our band and brings tons of great ideas to the table,” Gabel says. “The guy has got such a great track history, you can’t really fuck with that.”

Against Me! spent the past two years touring non-stop in support of New Wave, which was released by Sire Records in July 2007. Called “the most invigorating, zeitgeist-capturing rock album in years” by Spin, New Wave was named the magazine’s “Album of the Year,” and also appeared in the Top 10 on Rolling Stone, Blender, and MTV.com’s year-end “Best Album” lists. New Wave spawned two singles, “White People for Peace” and “Thrash Unreal,” which became the band’s first single to chart in the U.S. when it climbed to No. 11 on the Modern Rock chart.

Look for Against Me!’s new album from Sire Records in 2010.
