Originally, I was going to go to bed. Then, I started working on a new mash-up. Next thing I knew, all that I had planned to do had gone out the window and I was experimenting with something else. The end result: a union between Muse and Boston that is just as pointless as the source materials, but just as groovy nonetheless.

*Blu-ray Review* The Green Berets
Posted: 27 January, 2010 in Movies/TVTags: Action, John Wayne, patriotism, propaganda, The Green Berets, War, Warner Home Video
As a wise old nobody probably once said, “War is an all-you-can-eat buffet of hell.” Such a crappy analogy can almost be perceived as true, too — unless John Wayne’s about, of course, in which case the buffet opts to bring out the salad bar and dessert trays as well. And the main course? Ham. Lots and lots of ham. Just look at any old John Wayne war film for confirmation. Bombs go “boom,” guns go “rat-a-tat-tat,” and atrocities are committed all around. In the midst of it all is The Duke running about, making semi-poetic speeches about freedom. Or something along those lines.
*Blu-ray Review* The Marine 2

Ah, Thailand. Home of LadyBoys, the Bangkok Chess Club, and the beautiful islands of the Andaman Sea. It was from these lush tropical locales that Francisco Scaramanga once tried to take over the world. Fortunately, James Bond was there to stop him. Since then, many other madmen have set their sights on domination, both locally and globally. Most of these loons happen to be filmmakers, who are keen to take advantage of the country’s exotic settings and in-general inexpensiveness by making modestly budgeted direct-to-video motion pictures.
*Blu-ray Review* Halloween II (2009): Unrated Director’s Cut
Posted: 19 January, 2010 in Movies/TVTags: bad, Halloween II, Horror, Rob Zombie, slasher, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Rob Zombie’s Halloween II had a profound impact on me. It brought forth an emotion that normally only surface when I am either driving on the freeway or standing in line at Wal-Mart: rage. Uncontrollable, barbaric, “Who the fuck told you that you had a knack for making movies?” rage. And yet, when I sat down to write this review, I suddenly found myself at a loss as to what to say to all of you good people out there. All of the appropriate emotions were there (mostly rage), as were all of the words in my limited vocabulary pertaining to such feelings, such as “hate,” “dumb,” “stupid,” “anger,” “kill,” “maim,” and so on. But there was just no simple way of placing any of those said words in conjunction with one another. Finally, in an act of desperation, I settled for stealing a definition straight from the dictionary…
*DVD Review* Cinematic Titanic Live: East Meets Watts

Throughout the first seven Cinematic Titanic releases, I always had an underlying feeling that there was something missing. Granted, all of the first seven releases were good in their own way — some were perfect, in fact — but the whole setup seemed as if it had one foot in limbo, while the rest of its body stood firmly in our universe.
*Blu-ray Review* Family Guy: Something, Something, Something Dark Side
Posted: 17 January, 2010 in Movies/TV, TVTags: animation, Comedy, Family Guy: Something Something Something Dark Side, Fox Home Entertainment, Science Fiction, Seth MacFarlane, spoof, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
I’m not the biggest fan of animation in the world. There are a few exceptions, though. One of them is Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy. Granted, I’m not the world’s biggest fan of it, either — I won’t go out of my way to view it, but I’ll stand at attention if it’s on nonetheless. At its worst, Family Guy is crude and infantile. But, seeing as how the entire comedy genre seems to be perpetually trapped in an ice age of sophomoric humor, the crudeness and infantiletiness (I just made that word up) of Family Guy takes “lowbrow” humor to a new level — outshining that of South Park or The Simpsons — and it’s definitely one of the best shows out there. The writers of the series are “hip” enough to throw in some of the most obscure (yet witty) film and television references they can muster — which keeps most pop culture junkies happy.
*Blu-ray Review* All About Steve
Posted: 12 January, 2010 in Movies/TVTags: All About Steve, bad, Bradley Cooper, Ken Jeong, romantic comedy, Sandra Bullock, Thomas Haden Church
As anyone who has ever been in a lengthy relationship knows, every couple has a “His” section and a “Her” section (or, “His” and “His,” “Hers” and “Hers,” or some other variation thereof) for select items. Toiletries, vehicles, tastes in food — and, of course, films. Case in point: All About Steve, another in a long line of romantic comedies starring Sandra Bullock. It’s definitely the kind of film that is considered a “Hers” selection within the confines of our home, and it’s also an excellent example of what a “chick flick” really is. And, after watching it with my fiancée, I am proud to say that I still love her anyway.
