Unless you possess an IQ equivalent to the shoe size of a sasquatch, it can be incredibly easy to find yourself losing interest with the shows we see on television. Especially with those abominable airwave creations network executives seem to think you will find some sort of thrill in viewing. It should go without saying that anyone who feels the urge to check out the weekly exploits of teenage mothers or life forms known as Kardashians has a significantly low regard for all things remotely intriguing in life to begin with. But what happens when even that is insufficient to keep you adrift in this lonely, lonely world satiated with adroitly weird characters? (more…)

A long time ago, HBO mostly aired movies that — if you were lucky — were only about a year-old. As time went on, the cable network began to produce its own, independent programming of feature-length films. Once TV shows became popular again in the late ’90s, HBO produced its own series as well — which turned into one of their biggest hits, something called The Sopranos, a series that has practically been all-but forgotten — and, thanks to the era of reality diva TV that ushered in soon after, may actually be about a group of prima donna opera performers as far as some people know anymore! He’s just a gigolo — and everywhere he goes, people know the part he’s playing. Oh, the joys of male prostitution. Not that I’d know anything about that, of course, but I’d be lying if I said I — like many other men out there — have never thought about what it would be like to be a part of the world’s oldest profession. But my own fantasies about what I like to envision would be my dream job is not under scrutiny here. No, instead we’re talking about the HBO series Hung: The Complete Third Season — a series that, sadly, came to an end in 2011 with this final ten-episode hoorah. (more…)
